You now know how to create your own images and run them.

Don’t stop now! The next scenario will only take about 10 minutes to complete.

02. Docker Images #1

Step 1 of 3

Step 1 - List and pull images

To list your local images, simply run docker image ls or alias docker images.

To download an image from registry, run docker pull [repo/]<image-name>[:tag]. Good examples are:

  • docker pull mysql - pulls latest image of official mysql repository
  • docker pull mysql:8 - pulls image tagged 8 of official mysql repository
  • docker pull microsoft/dotnet:runtime - pulls Microsoft .NET runtime

Run docker image ls again and check which images are available now. Notice there are 2 MySQL images with same hash. This is because tag 8 and latest point at the same image.
