In this Katacode it will be explained how to install ClamAV into your Ubuntu distribution.

ClamAV is an open source antivirus engine for detecting trojans, viruses, malware & other malicious threats.

Once ClamAV is installed, clamav-unofficial-sigs script will be used for adding third-party signature databases provided, improving this way our antivirus scanning.

Step 1 - Install requirements

You will need to install the following packages:

  • C compiler: apt-get install -y build-essential
  • zlib library: apt-get install -y zlib1g-dev

You can check if both packages are already installed:

  • apt list --installed | grep build-essential
  • apt list --installed | grep zlib1g
